SEEAC Launch 5-Year Impact Report

Dear friends,

In January 2025, SEEAC celebrated our 5th year anniversary since its formal incorporation. Today, we’re thrilled (and emotional) to launch our 5-Year Impact Report: A Collective Journey for Resilience, Empowering & Caring Communities. The launch coincides beautifully with ESEA Heritage Month in September, what better time to reflect on roots, resilience, and the communities that make us who we are?

The report is a snapshot of what SEEAC has achieved since we set sail back in January 2020 as a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) building on years of community initiatives before. It is divided into six chapters:

  • An introduction of SEEAC

  • Chair’s welcome message and Executive Director’s letter

  • Our history and key milestones

  • Our projects and strategies, including a special COVID edition (since our first work started during the pandemic)

  • Organisational and financial review

  • Closing remarks with heartfelt thanks to all our supporters

What really brings this report to life are the stories. You’ll find the voices of our community and partners like Diah Granita, who shares what she found at SEEAC, and Anh Doan, our collaborator in mental health support. We also included an anonymous story, consented to with care, to show the complex realities of our individual and community support.

Looking back, it feels like we’ve been swimming against tides, a global pandemic, a cost-of-living crisis, and migration policies that uncover hostility instead of humanity. And yet, we kept moving and growing, and every step was taken with care, consciousness, and community at the center of what we do.

One of the lively touches of this report is the playful hand-drawn illustrations and attentive design, thanks to Migrants in Culture who helped us craft this report. Their art and creative direction added clarity and warmth to our report and gave us a sense of solidarity.

A special thanks goes to Shuhan Lin, formerly an Information and Communications Officer at SEEAC, and now a Freelance Communication Consultant, who led the write-up of this report content.

As someone who’s officially worked with SEEAC for just about a year, compiling this report has been a privilege. It’s like peeking behind the curtain to witness SEEAC’s full journey. The deeper I went into the text, the more I was stunned by the flesh and soul of the organisation.

One of my favourites in the report is that one small image of a chair on the very last page. For me, it symbolises the space and support that SEEAC creates for its community members. Imagine someone pulling out a chair for you after a long, exhausting day in a hustle-filled world, that’s what it feels like at SEEAC.
— Shuhan Lin

Now, pull up a chair and have a read, and celebrate with us. I hope you will see yourself reflected and being part of this collective journey. Each one of you who laid the foundation of SEEAC and has supported us in our journey has shaped the organisation.

In Solidarity,

Mariko Hayashi, Executive Director
