Rise and Lead Fellowship
SEEAC is pleased to partner with Anti Trafficking and Labour Exploitation (ATLEU) in the Rise and Lead Fellowship project. With the funding from City Bridge Foundation as part of Propel, ATLEU, Voice of Domestic Workers (VoDW), and SEEAC will run a 12-month training fellowship to create an employment pathway into the anti-trafficking advice sector for people with lived experience of human trafficking/modern slavery and migration.
The project emerges from our recognition of the broader systemic issues that deny the right to work and lengthy delays in the trafficking, immigration and asylum system, all of which hinder people with lived experience of human trafficking/modern slavery and migration from tapping into the opportunities of creating a better future. ATLEU's research, "Untapping a Power," conducted in 2023-2024, explored the barriers and exclusions experienced by people with lived experience themselves and highlighted why employing survivors is essential. They can play a vital role in improving systems and outcomes for themselves and their peers, if given the chance.
The Rise and Lead Fellowship, launched in June 2025, is a pilot project designed to showcase the possibilities and enablers of building an inclusive system and policy, and creating better opportunities for individuals with lived experience of human trafficking/modern slavery, and migration to thrive and contribute significantly to development. The project will not only provide a twelve-month opportunity for fellowship with ATLEU and community organisations, such as VODW and SEEAC. It will also involve fellows in regular training and supervision on client care and advice work, mentoring on job skills, and support to access follow-on training or employment at the end of the fellowship.
