Building Thriving Canary Wharf Communities
SEEAC is excited to begin a new project with support from Canary Wharf Group this year to build thriving communities amidst the economic challenges. Through this project, we will convene bimonthly employment skills workshops to introduce and enhance our community's digital skills, including ICT literacy training, online CV writing, in-person and online interview techniques, public speaking, and other relevant skills.
The project stemmed from our recognition that many migrant communities continue to struggle with digital advancement. The advancement of technology is not linear with humans' capacity to access, let alone use it. In such situations, migrants who are struggling economically find it challenging to access the internet and connect with the fast-paced world and thus struggle to build a network and find a job. Similarly, the older generation struggles to complete multiple forms they need in their everyday life, including for banking, healthcare registration and consultation. Those who are in an incapacitated condition feel left out. Those working in informal jobs as well as in domestic settings lack the time and opportunities to improve their digital skills, which affects their employability and mobility.
SEEAC has conducted various group activities and workshops for our community members, including those focused on their well-being, employment upskilling, and language skills. The Canary Wharf Group Community Grants fund will help SEEAC to reach more communities, particularly within the Canary Wharf and Tower Hamlets boroughs.
